Research Studies – Research Activities in Nigerian Banks
Background:
The ever increasing challenges of operating in a fast and dynamic sector of the economy has made research an imperative for success for banks. This is more so for post-consolidation banks in Nigeria that are faced with the twin challenge of driving national growth and development, and remaining globally competitive. It has, therefore, become important for Nigerian banks to undertake research in functional areas of their business.
Solutions:
FITC led a team of researchers to carry out an Assessment of the Framework for Research in Nigerian Banks. The project was co-sponsored by FITC and First Bank of Nigeria.
Result:
The findings of this survey have been highly revealing and most beneficial to many banks and non-bank financial institutions some of whom have considered given research function a foremost place in their operations.
Research Studies – Framework For Credit Management in Banks
Background:
Given the importance of lending as one of the integral parts of financial intermediation and its significant role as the largest source of income for money deposit banks, the fallout of the global financial crisis evoked fresh concerns about the process and standards of administering credit in banks all over the world.
This necessitated a research study currently being embarked upon by FITC in collaboration with the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) on the Framework for Managing Credit in Banks within Nigeria.
Solution:
FITC Research approached this by:
-
profiling the generic departmental structures for credit management in Nigerian banks;
-
Identifying, if any, the constraints, including competencies shortages, that limit the optimal performance of the departments/units; and, on the basis of the insights gained
-
Appraise the models/structures of departments/units for effectiveness; and
-
Establish the capacity and level of adequacy of the departments in meeting the needs of the banks.
Result:
The study is on-going. |
